Inequality Is No Accident

There is a vast economic equality in the United States today, and it needs to be fixed. But every time someone brings that up, the rich (and their lackeys in the GOP) start whining about class warfare. The truth is that there is a class warfare, and it began about three decades ago, when the Republicans began instituting their "trickle-down" economic policy -- a policy that allowed the rich to get richer by not sharing productivity gains with the rest of the population, and by shifting the tax burden from the rich to the middle class. This must be reversed, because it is killing our democracy -- and turning it into a plutocracy.

  1. William Jenning Bryan "ross of Gold" speech 1860 ~ There are two ideas of government. There are those who believe that if you just legislate to make the well-to-do prosperous, that their prosperity will leak through on those below. The Democratic idea has been that if you legislate to make the masses prosperous their prosperity will find its way up and through every class that rests upon it.

  2. Money doesn't trickle down in this economy (or any other) -- it flows up.
