Yesterday I posted about a new national poll by Public Policy Polling about party preferences for the 2016 presidential nomination. Now the CNN / ORC Poll has released a new national poll on the same subject. The poll surveyed 367 Republicans and 372 Democrats for each party's presidential preferences, and there was a 5 point margin of error for each.
The results were very similar. While the Republican leader in each of the two polls were different (Huckabee in the PPP survey and Paul in the CNN poll), no candidate had a lead exceeding the margin of error. That means there still is no clear leader among Republicans -- and the race is wide open. Any of the possible candidates could win (or a new candidate could emerge, since none of the current possibles is catching fire). This race will be very interesting for the next couple of years.
The two polls also show virtually the same thing as far as Democrats are concerned. Hillary Clinton can have the Democratic nomination just by asking for it. And I think she will ask -- just not for a while (since declaring right now will not gain her anything at all).
