Gun Death Rates Of The 50 States (Per 100,000 People)
I'm not going to do any rant on guns or gun restrictions today. I just thought you might like to see the gun death rates in the separate 50 states. The gun death rate (per 100,000) in the United States as a whole is 10.38. There are 29 states that have a higher gun death rate than the national average, and 21 states that have a gun death rate below the national average. I was a bit surprised to see that my home state (Texas) is slightly below the national average. You can check these two charts to see where your state rests. Louisiana is the state with the highest rate (18.91) and Rhode Island is the state with the lowest rate (3.14) -- showing there is a pretty wide range between the states.
These figures are from the Violence Policy Center -- who got them from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and from the National Center for Injury Control and Prevention.
