Public Is Ready To Legalize Recreational Use Of Marijuana

These charts were made from information in a new YouGov Poll -- conducted conducted between July 28th and 30th of 1,000 randomly chosen national adults, and has a margin of error of 3.9 points.

Several polls have already shown us that a majority of Americans no longer believe the lies about marijuana (whether told by the government, the ignorant, or those making money off the "war on drugs"), and they would like to see the recreational use of marijuana made legal and taxed. This poll shows the same -- with 55% wanting legalization and only 36% opposing it.

But the interesting part of this survey is the demographic breakdown. Note that only two groups are opposed to legalization -- Republicans (whose teabagger/evangelicals are opposed to any kind of fun) and those over age 65 (many of whom are too set in their ways to change even when confronted with facts). All other groups (regardless of gender, age, race, income level, or political persuasion) have majorities in favor of legalization.

Also interesting is the bottom chart, which shows that although people want marijuana legalized, they don't want it legal to be used everywhere. That's understandable, since most people also think other legal drugs like alcohol should not be legally used everywhere.

  1. Legalize ALL DRUGS! If some dim wants to be drugged out and abuse the use of them - so what???
Show me any drug that is more dangerous the the common abuse of alcohol?? The worse miss use was during prohibition, so legalize-control-and TAX are better alternatives. Drug abuse will be done regardless of anything hypocritical bigots do to stop it, so make it OK and then they can find the abusers and do something useful.
