Two Out Of Three In Texas Didn't Bother To Vote

Texas has over 14 million registered voters, but only a tiny fraction (about 33%) of them voted on election day. That means 2 out of every 3 registered voters in the state didn't bother to vote -- a shameful statistic unmatched by any other state.

So less than 20% of registered voters elected a Republican governor and a full slate of statewide Republican candidates. I don't blame these voters for electing the Republicans. While I disagree with the choice they made, they did their civic duty by voting -- and I commend them for that (just as I commend the Democrats, Greens, Libertarians, and Independents who voted).

I blame the 66% who did not vote for electing a very flawed slate of candidates to statewide political office in Texas:
a proven corrupt politician to be Governor
an insane politician to be Lt. Governor
an admitted criminal to be Attorney General
an incompetent politician to be Comptroller
an extremist teabagger to be Agriculture Commissioner.

What the hell is wrong with you non-voters? Do you not love your state? Do you not care what happens to your fellow citizens in the next two years? Don't you understand that these politicians will affect nearly every aspect of your lives?

I honestly don't understand why a citizen living in a representative democracy would fail to vote in any election. It is not only your right -- it is your duty as a citizen.

The figures in the chart above are from the Texas Secretary of State.
