Percentage Of Religious "Nones" Is Growing In All States
The chart above is from the most recent survey by the Public Religion Research Institute. It shows the top three religious "traditions" in all 50 states. One of the things shown is the rise in the number of Americans who are not affiliated with any religion -- the atheists, agnostics, skeptics, and those who just don't care for religion (about 21% nationally).
Note that there are 45 states now where the "nones" are in the top three groups regarding religious belief. This would not have been the case just a few years ago. Only five states don't include the nones in their top three -- Alabama, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Louisiana. The nones (the religiously unaffiliated) are now the biggest percentage in 13 states -- Oregon, New Hampshire, Washington, Vermont, Montana, Alaska, Colorado, Maine, Idaho, Nevada, Hawaii, Delaware, and Michigan.
The percentage of nones has grown with each generation, and there is no reason to think that trend won't continue.
