Clinton Still Has A Large Lead Among Iowa Democrats
Yesterday, I posted the results of the Des Moines Register Poll regarding the Republican preferences for their presidential nomination. Today, I bring you the other half of that survey -- the preferences of Iowa Democrats. The survey queried 437 registered Democratic voters between May 25th and 29th, and has a margin of error of 4.7 points.
As you can see from the top chart, Hillary Clinton maintains a substantial lead among Iowa Democrats -- 41 points above second place finisher Bernie Sanders. Sanders seems to have been successful in soaking up the votes of those who had supported Elizabeth Warren, but is yet to cut into Clinton's lead. Biden, who has not said he would run, finished third with 8%, and Webb and O'Malley bring up the rear with 2% apiece. Chafee, who will declare his candidacy next Saturday, was not included in the survey.
The survey also asked respondents whether they had a favorable or unfavorable opinion of each candidate, and whether there was a candidate they would "never" support. Those results are in the charts below. Note that Hillary Clinton has a favorable rating of 86% among Iowa Democrats -- which would make it very hard to for another candidate to mount a victorious campaign. She also is the candidate with the lowest "never support" number.
