The Tour entered France for the first time this year, and the riders got a dose of cobblestones as the 223.5 kilometer stage 4 was completed. German Rider Tony Martin broke away from the lead group only 3 kilometers from the finish, and hung on to win the stage (and seize the yellow jersey). John Degenkolb, also from Germany, finished in second and Peter Sagan of Slovakia finished third.
Stage 5 doesn't have any mountains, but the 189.5 kilometer course is very hilly all the way. It could be a good day for a breakaway.
