I was discussing this with a friend this morning, and I really don't think this is the correct reading of it. I think it is fine to add complexity to Atticus Finch. In Mockingbird, he isn't a civil rights crusader; he's someone who believes very much (Too much!) in the justice system. Of course, I'm not planning to read the book any time soon. Lee apparently didn't think it was worth publishing all these years. She wrote a perfect book. I don't need to soil that. But maybe in a few years I'll break down.
ANONYMOUS COMMENTS WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED. And neither will racist, homophobic, or misogynistic comments. I do not mind if you disagree, but make your case in a decent manner.
