Trump And Clinton Top New National Poll

Yesterday, I showed you the results of the Reuters / Ipsos Poll. Today, it's the new YouGov Poll -- done between July 4th and 6th of a random sample of 1,000 American adults (226 Republicans and 309 Democrats). The margin of error for the poll is 4 point, but would be slightly higher for just those in either party.

The Reuters poll had Donald Trump and George Bush in a virtual tie for the lead among Republican candidates. Trump does even better in the YouGov Poll. He leads the pack with 15% -- 4 points better than Jeb Bush and Rand Paul (who both finished with 11%), and 6 points better than Walker, Rubio, and Huckabee (who all finished with 9%). With these two very good finishes in the latest polls, it's not going to be possible to keep Trump out of the GOP debate (now about three weeks away).

The Democratic side of the survey contained no surprises. Bernie Sanders seems to have gained a bit, and now shows 24% support (his best finish in a YouGov Poll) -- but he's still 31 points behind Hillary Clinton (who finished with 55% support).

  1. Again, Christie is high. It doesn't seem like he's done anything to get a bump. But I would like to see him in the debates. I'm curious how he will do up against the rest. I think he is vastly overrated as a politician. I think he appeals in New Jersey and New York and that's about it. Of course, he doesn't appeal there either.
