This chart, made from information provided by the office of the Texas Secretary of State, surprised me a bit. The early voting totals were up in Texas, and actually set a new record. That had made me think the voting percentage as a whole would also increase. It did not.
Only 59.13% of the registered voters in the state bothered to go to the polls and cast a vote in this election. That's about the same as it was in 2012 (58.57%), and actually slightly less than in 2008 (59.5%).
All that happened was that more of the normal 58% to 59% that usually vote decided to vote early instead of waiting for election day.
Here are the votes for president in Texas:
Donald Trump (R)...............4,681,590 (52.42%)
Hillary Clinton (D)...............3,867,816 (43.31%)
Gary Johnson (L)...............282,524 (3.16%)
Jill Stein (G)...............71,307 (0.79%)
