Only 29% Of Americans Support The GOP Tax Plan
The Republican tax reform plan gives massive permanent tax cuts to the wealthy and the corporations at the expense of other Americans. Even the few ordinary Americans (those making less than $75,000 a year) who get a small cut will see it disappear by 2027, because their cuts are only temporary. In spite of this, the Republicans claim their plan will mainly benefit the middle class. They evidently believe a lie told often enough will eventually be believed by voters.
But the public has not been fooled. Only 29% of voters approve of the GOP tax reform plan, while 53% oppose the plan -- a negative gap of 24 points! And the second chart above shows why they disapprove. They know that the plan is designed to benefit the rich more than the middle class. Only 24% say it will mainly benefit the middle class, while a whopping 64% say it will mainly benefit the rich.
The public hasn't been fooled by the repeated lies of the congressional Republicans. Instead of helping them in 2018, this odious tax reform plan may be the death knell for the Republican Party. It exposes them as the party of the rich and corporations.
The charts above are from a new Quinnipiac University Poll -- done between November 29th and December 4th of a random national sample of 1,508 voters, with a 3.1 point margin of error.
