How much income do you need to have to maintain a modest, but adequate standard of living? It differs according to where you live in this country, but the Economic Policy Institute has tried to answer that question for you. They have compiled cost-of-living data for every county and metro area in the United States -- and used that data to create a Family Budget Calculator (that will figure the minimum income needed for a modest but decent standard of living). All you need to do is type in your county or city, and it will show you the income needed (for a family or an individual).
