GOP View On Health Care Is Not Popular With The Public

The Republicans have made their views on health care very clear. They do not believe health care is a right of all citizens. They view it only as a product to be sold to those who can afford it -- and they really don't care that this leaves millions of Americans without the preventative care that could save or extend their lives.

And their actions have matched their words. After gaining full control of both Congress and the White House, they immediately set about to destroy the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), without giving Americans anything to replace it. Their actions have left millions more Americans with any kind of health insurance, and caused insurance premiums to skyrocket for others. And they've done nothing to curtail the rapidly rising cost of medical care in the United States.

They have tried to pose their odious actions as doing what the American people wanted them to do, but that is simply not true. Americans think health care should be a right and available to every citizen. And 63% believe it is the federal government's responsibility to make sure all Americans have access to decent and affordable health care.

Many progressives are pushing for a single-payer government-run health system (something like Medicare-for-all). Thanks to the Republican incompetence regarding health care, that idea is becoming more popular with the general public. Currently, close to half of Americans (46%) say they would support such a system, while only about 31% say they would oppose it.

Republicans hate the Medicare-for-all idea. They call it socialism. But unless they can come up with a different way to provide decent and affordable health care for all citizens, that is where the U.S. is heading. Call it what you will, but denying health care to American citizens is just morally and medically wrong.

The charts above don't come from  some left-wing survey. They represent the results from the latest Fox News Poll -- done between August 19th and 21st of a national sample of 1,009 registered voters, with a margin of error of 3 points.
