Public Has More Favorable Opinion Of McCain Than Trump
Donald Trump has repeatedly denigrated John McCain, and even after his death, had to be forced to say anything nice about him. I'm starting to wonder if it's jealousy. McCain was recognized as a hero for his military service, and respected for his service in the United States Senate. Trump has been unable to get the approval of a majority of Americans since taking office.
When the two are compared, McCain comes out on top in the opinion of the American public. While 42% of Americans say they have a favorable opinion of Trump, it's 55% that have a favorable opinion of McCain -- and for registered voters, it's Trump 43% and McCain 61%. And that holds true for all demographic groups. They all (except for Republicans) view McCain more Favorably than Trump.
These numbers are from the latest Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between August 26th and 28th of a national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,249 registered voters). The margin of error for adults is 3 points, and for registered voters is 2.9 points.
