Americans Say NO To Declaring An Emergency For A Wall

The government remains shutdown, and is now the longest government shutdown in U.S. history. Trump is still trying to cause undocumented immigration a crisis for the country, and has said he may declare a national emergency to get his wall.

The public is not buying it though. Only 34% say the border situation is a crisis, while 55% say it is a problem but nor a crisis (and 11% don't see it as even a problem). Since most people don't see it as a crisis, it shouldn't be surprising that they also don't want Trump to declare a national emergency. Only 33% want him to do that, while twice as many do not (67%).

Trump is also still being mostly blamed for the shutdown. About 47% say Trump is responsible, while 30% say it's the Democrats in Congress and 3% say it's the Republicans in Congress. The remaining 20% blames everyone.

These chats are from a new CBS News / YouGov Poll -- done between January 9th and 11th of a national sample of 1,470 adults, with a margin of error of 2.9 points.
