Democrats Extend Their Lead On Congressional Ballot

This chart reflects the results of the latest Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between September 8th and 10th of a national sample of 1,188 registered voters, with a 3 point margin of error.

It has been a topic of conversation among the talking heads on cable news as to whether the Republicans can retake the House in 2020 (and hold on to the Senate). The results of this poll shows that both may be in doubt.

The Democrats have enjoyed a small lead on the generic congressional ballot for months now, but this poll shows they have now increased their lead to double-digits -- about 11 points (49% to 38%).

Republicans do hold a small 3 point lead among Whites, but that is easily offset by a Democratic lead of 71 points among Blacks and 33 points among Hispanics. But perhaps most troubling for the GOP is the 17 point deficit they have among women.
