Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia is a Democrat, or at least he was elected after running for office on the Democratic ticket. But he has recently been a thorn in the side of President Biden.
Manchin is the reason the $15 minimum wage had to be removed from the Coronavirus relief bill before it could be passed. He is also the main reason that Democrats, at least so far, have not been able to eliminate the Senate filibuster. And he has stated his belief that the infrastructure bill proposed by President Biden may be too large (too expensive).
So the results of this poll probably shouldn't be too surprising. It turns out that more Republicans have a favorable opinion of Manchin (37%) than Democrats (29%) -- a margin of 8 points.
The survey is the recent Economist / YouGov Poll -- done May 1st through 4th of a national sample of 1,500 adults nationwide, with a 2.6 point margin of error.
