There is no doubt that we are in a period of high inflation. The higher prices for nearly everything is causing problems for most Americans -- especially the poor and working classes. If it does not mitigate somewhat, it will be a big issue in the November election.
Polls show that most Americans think the Republicans would handle inflation better than the Democrats. I do not believe that is even close to the truth. History has shown us that the economy does better under Democrats than under Republicans.
What would the Republicans do? In recent years, the Republicans have only had one solution to any of the country's economic problems -- lowering taxes and eliminating regulations for corporations. Unfortunately, that just enhances the problems -- it doesn't solve them.
Republicans make a lot of claims about their favorite solution. When they did this a few years ago, they told Americans that corporations would use the money to increase worker wages. Trump even said this boost in wages would be about $5,000 a year. That didn't happen. Wages remained virtually stagnant. Corporations just used the money to buy their own stock and fatten their bank accounts.
They will not claim that giving more money to corporations will allow them to lower prices. It won't. The corporations will just buy back more stock and enjoy larger back accounts. The only goal for corporations is ever larger profits. Cutting prices for consumers does not accomplish that.
Voters need to realize that money does not trickle down in this economy -- it flows upward. Giving more to the corporate rich only helps them. To help everyone in our society, we must invest in those who have the least.
Inflation is a tough problem, and no one has a great solution. But the GOP's solution will only make things worse -- and it will increase the huge wealth/income gap between the rich and the rest of us.
