Another Rand Paul Screw-Up

For Democrats, Rand Paul is the gift that just keeps on giving. They hadn't even finished counting primary ballots in Kentucky, where he won the Republican nomination in the race for a U.S. Senate seat, before he starting screwing up. He went on several national TV programs and let his racist side slip out by telling reporters that he opposed provisions of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

According to Paul, businesses should have the right to discriminate against minorities. Then he made things worse by blasting the Americans With Disabilities Act and saying he thought businesses should also be able to discriminate against disabled people. Then he said the government was wrong for criticizing BP and the mine owners for their respective disasters because "accidents happen".

It has become a game to watch Paul and see what crazy thing he is going to say next. You know it's going to happen -- it's just a matter of when and what. Well, we didn't have to wait long. Paul has been bragging that he is a "board-certified" ophthalmologist.

The problem with that is that it's just a lie. He is not "board-certified" and hasn't been for at least five years now according to a national clearinghouse for medical certifications. Spokeswoman for the American Board of Medical Specialities (ABMS), Lori Boukas, says that certifications are not valid unless they are given by one of the 24 groups approved by the AMA and ABMS.

So where did Paul's certification come from? From the National Board of Ophthalmology -- a group that Paul had incorporated in 1999 and that he is the head of. That's right. He certified himself, and has no actual AMA-approved "board-certification". Personally, I don't think I'd want to be treated by a doctor that had certified himself in defiance of AMA protocol.

Surely Kentuckians aren't really considering electing this racist liar.
