This is a fascinating study in the effect of the politics of constituencies on foreign policy.
I really believe that in a political vacuum, President Obama would support the UN resolution to seat Palestine as a voting member of the United Nations.
But...
After 1) a Democratic congressman resigns in humiliation; and
2) a Republican convincingly wins his seat in a district that was solidly Democrat for nine decades; then
3) the Jewish vote (which is critical for Obama in winning Florida and New York next year) suddenly become more important than maintaining a consistent foreign policy.
