There's an old saying that says there is nothing for certain except death and taxes. But most Americans know there is a third certainty -- that Donald Trump has an extremely inflated ego. He's always had this problem, but it was exacerbated by his popularity among teabaggers when he toyed with the idea of running for president. I don't know if they actually thought he was qualified (could they be that dumb?), but they sure liked his racist birtherism.
And because he seemed to be popular with the teabaggers (who will choose the Republican nominee for president next year), several of the GOP presidential candidates made the trek to New York to kiss Trump's ring and beg for his endorsement. This just inflated Trump's ego even more, and he began to think he was some kind of "king-maker" within the Republican Party.
So Trump let his ego overtake his better judgement and announced he would be having his own GOP presidential debate -- and he would be the moderator (saying he understood the issues better than any journalist or TV talking head). I think he had this vision of all the candidates paying homage to "the Donald" on national TV and vying for his official blessing.
But this was too much even for the clowns in the GOP presidential race. Jon Huntsman and Ron Paul quickly realized that appearing in a Trump "reality show" would just make them look ridiculous -- not presidential. They both announced they would not be participating in the debate. Then Mitt Romney, who never makes a decision (or takes a stand) without first checking the political wind direction, realized that Paul and Huntsman now looked like the adults in the race and quickly jumped on board. He announced he would also be skipping the debate.
Now Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry have also announced they will not participate in Trump's debate. They suddenly have other engagements that require their attendance that night. That leaves Trump with only Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum -- both of whom are so desperate for votes they would attend an event hosted by Ronald McDonald (which I admit is not too remote from an event hosted by Donald Trump). Now Trump is considering canceling his disastrous debate. He knows he has been left looking like a fool and is trying to salvage what little is left of his dignity.
Now Trump is left with only two choices. He can either endorse Newt Gingrich (who actually said he would attend the debate), or he can run for president himself as an independent (which he has said he would do if the party doesn't nominate the right candidate). Frankly, that sounds like a win-win situation for the Democrats.
if you look up the term 'cluster fuck,' in the dictionary, your going to find a picture of the GOP...hahah
