Romney Still Leading In South Carolina

The teabagger/ evangelicals are starting to get worried. They don't want Mitt Romney to be the Republican nominee for president this year, but he has won the Iowa caucuses, swept the New Hampshire primary, and currently leads in the polls for both South Carolina and Florida. If they don't slow him down soon, he may be too far ahead for them to stop his nomination.

That's why a group of fundie leaders met in Texas a couple of days ago. They were worried that the "social conservative" candidates were splitting the teabagger/evangelical vote and allowing Romney to win. They finally decided on a candidate they want the anti-Romney forces to unite behind -- Rick Santorum. But it is unlikely that the endorsement of these leaders will do much to change the race. The only things that could help is 1) if Gingrich and Perry were to drop out right now, which is not at all likely, or 2) if these leaders pump an enormous sum of money into Santorum's candidacy.

But they'd better do something pretty quick if they want to stop Romney. There are only five days left until the people of South Carolina go to the polls, and the latest polls show Romney might actually be extending his lead in that state. Here are those poll results:

NEW FRONTIER STRATEGY POLL
