Planned Poverty

The Republicans want to impose austerity on this country. They want to cut the budget even further -- not to balance the budget, but so they can give their rich Wall Street buddies even bigger tax cuts. It doesn't matter to them that the rich are already paying less in taxes than since World War II (including the Reagan years). It also doesn't matter to them that in this troubled economy a program of austerity is the worst thing that can be done economically.

Austerity will take money out of the economy, reducing demand and job creation. It will throw more people into poverty -- because more people will lose jobs, and those barely keeping their heads above water will receive less government help. It truly is planned poverty! And in the richest nation in the world, that is inexcusable.
