Your comment was deleted because I didn't like the uncalled-for name-calling. Molly Ivins is one of the brightest and most talented writers I know of. I wish I could write just half as well as she did.
I don't remember being particularly rude about Ms. Ivins, of whom I have never heard before today, and I certainly didn't criticise her literary skills.
Anyway, let me try again with my main point. Everyone, and I do mean *everyone* who reads this blog is, by global standards, unbelievably wealthy. Therefore I assume you, Ms. Ivins and all your readers will not mind in the least if the government doubles your tax and gives it to the poor of the world. Can I take that as a 'yes'?
May I recommend two of her "many" works that I particularly enjoyed: Shrub: The Short But Happy Political Life of George W. Bush with Lou Dubose (Random House, 2000) ISBN 0-375-50399-4 and Bushwhacked: Life in George W. Bush's America with Lou Dubose (Random House, 2003) ISBN 0-375-50752-3.
And the point of your main point is....? I fail to see the relevance of your comment.
I also don't understand why you're here. You're not truly interested in having a discussion. IMO, you're only interested in dropping in your "bons mots" to show how intelligent and clever you are and how deluded the people who read this blog are.
...and the "well-off" have so many deductions at their disposal that they could conceivably get their tax liability down to "0" (zero). But I'm sure that won't stop them from complaining either. If they are really "the" job creators, they are doing a very bad job with all the breaks they have gotten so far. Molly wasn't puzzled in the least!
If the rich also have to pay their fair share -- on a progressive basis. I do believe we are our brother's keeper. What about you? Do you believe in helping your fellow man?
And for your information, Molly Ivins was a Texas journalist and author, who wrote with a devastating wit -- and she is a personal heroine of mine. I will never allow her good name to be denigrated on this blog.
Criticism and name-calling are two very different things -- and yes, she is above that on this blog. She was also a full-grown woman, not a girl (which is a term used to marginalize women).
ANONYMOUS COMMENTS WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED. And neither will racist, homophobic, or misogynistic comments. I do not mind if you disagree, but make your case in a decent manner.

DeleteBut but...they need more money so they can create more jobs! And like, if we abolish the minimum wage, even more jobs will be created!
ReplyDeleteDon't you care about helping the poor, Ted?
/snark
Of course! I must have forgotten that the way to help the poor is to give rich people more money!

DeleteYou mean, Ted, she is above criticism? What a lucky girl!

DeleteI hereby forgive her silliness in the quote on your banner, we all say silly things from time to time, but this redeems her:
ReplyDelete"she wrote about a "community chicken-killing festival" in New Mexico and called it a "gang-pluck,".
