Right-Wing Predictions (That Were Wrong)

Conservatives never want change. They are afraid of it -- convinced that if government does anything to make society or the economy a bit fairer and more equal, disaster must surely follow. Of course, they are always wrong. The only thing that happens is that society and the economy becomes a bit fairer and more equality is realized -- and that is not a bad thing.

We must always continue to make our country a better place -- regardless of what the right-wing doomsayers predict will happen. They just don't want to have to give up (or even share) any of their privileged position. We must never forget that those in power have never willingly given up any of that power -- not even a tiny bit. Equality, fairness, and justice must be demanded, and even fought for, or it will never come.

Well, it did in Russia, China, Cuba, Eastern Europe . . .

    1. I know you don't want to admit it, but the people in all of those countries were better off after their revolutions than before it -- even if they weren't as rich as Americans and West Europeans.

    2. Gulp! Er, would that include the zillions who perished in the Gulags and Mao's 'Great Leap Forward' (or whatever it was called)? Amazing how you 'progressives' manage Lord nelson's trick with the telescope!

Also, reference the first bit of twaddle up above, wasn't Lincoln a Republican?

    3. The Gulags and the Cultural Revolution were bad, but so were the slave trade, the Inquisition, and the genocide against Native Americans.

Lincoln was indeed a Republican -- and so was Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower (and I respect all three). But none of them were right-wing teabaggers who spread hate and tried to hurt their country. Those were right-wing predictions -- not Republican predictions.

  2. Hmmmn! But Stalin and Mao out did "the slave trade, the Inquisition, and the genocide against Native Americans" AND PLUS even Hitler's best efforts by several millions! And you still think it was worth it? Despite the evidence before your eyes today showing how the Chinese have roared into wealth on the back of (fairly) free enterprise.

And as for #10 above, it was the Democrats in the '60s who either fought tooth and nail AGAINST desegregation or, like Bobby Kennedy, did nothing to help the cause lest it harm his brother's chances! The words 'pot', 'kettle' and, rather neatly, 'black' come to mind!

    1. I'm not about to apologize for the racists in the Democratic Party in the 1960s who opposed desegregation. I do find it interesting that they deserted the party after the civil rights laws were passed, and now form the backbone of the Republican Party in the South.

    2. "...the Chinese have roared into wealth on the back of (fairly) free enterprise." The cost (cough) of that 'free enterprise' to the Chinese, and the lack of regulation on industry has resulted in smog so thick that one cannot see five feet ahead and cars drive all day with fog lights on. Sorry, I like to breathe so I'll take the 'not so free enterprise' here over China's unfettered 'industrial revolution.
