Silly man, and even his son admitted that he was prone to ""provocative posturing". Well, we all do a bit of that from time to time but he should have tried to get his facts right. Americans are not "mainly poor", that is to gangbang the true meaning out of the word 'poor'. Only an infinitesimal tiny minority are really 'poor'.
If you really believe poverty in the U.S. is "infinitesimal", then you are the "silly man". About 20% of the population is receiving food stamps (and that doesn't count all who would qualify). Also, more than half of the population lives within less than 150% of the poverty line -- meaning they are either poor, or in danger of becoming poor. The top 10%-20% are doing very well in this country -- but the bottom 80% is struggling. Vonnegut was right.
