U.S. Unemployment Rate Rose By 0.2% In June To 4.9%

The Labor Department has released its statistics for the month of June. There were a rather robust 287,000 new jobs created in June, but that was not enough to keep the unemployment rate from rising. That's because the number of unemployed workers rose by 347,000 (from 7,436,000 in May to 7,783,000 in June).

The economy is still struggling -- and the reason is because the Republican-controlled Congress refuses to pump new money into the economy. Instead, they want to fatten the bank accounts of the rich and the corporations.
