Public Still Prefers Democrats Over Republicans

These charts reflect the results of the latest Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between November 19th and 21st of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,344 registered voters), with a margin of error of 3.3 points.

It shows that the public is not greatly enamored with either of the two major political parties -- but they like the Democrats more than the Republicans.

When asked their opinion of the parties, respondents give Democrats an 8 point advantage in favorable views (and rate the Republicans 8 points higher in unfavorable views). The same is similar in the views of the parties in Congress -- where the Democrats enjoy a 14 point advantage in favorability (and the Republicans are 14 points ahead in unfavorable views).

The public also blames Republicans more for the dysfunction of the 115th Congress -- by a 36 point margin. And if the election was held today, the public would favor Democrats by a 9 point margin over Republicans.

The Republicans seem to think they can make up the difference by giving the rich and corporations a huge tax break (and disrupting the insurance market). I think they are wrong.
