 The charts above are from the Emerson College Poll -- done on November 3rd and 4th of a nationwide sample of registered voters (417 Democrats with a 4.8 point moe and 420 Republicans with a 4.7 point moe).

Democrats Should Embrace Young Progressives Who Fight And Have New Ideas

The recent New York Democratic primary shocked the political world. Young progressive Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic primary for NYC mayor in spite of support from establishment Democrats and monied interests supporting Andrew Cuomo.

Republicans were quick to label Mamdani a "communist" and say he was the new leader of the Democratic Party. That's no surprise. They do the same to any liberal or progressive that shows ballot strength.

More disappointing was the reaction of the media - including some mainstream media outlets. They were quick to label Mamdani as a socialist and claim the party has a huge split among its ranks.

Even more disappointing was the reaction of some moderate Democrats, who still think the same old policies that didn't work in the 2024 election would somehow magically take them to victory in 2026 and 2028. They are wrong.

Anyone who has been reading the polls would know that. Poll after poll has shown the voters are not happy with the Democrat (or the Republicans). Most of these polls have Democratic favorability below 40%.

The moderate establishment Democrats seem to think there is nothing wrong with the economy except the actions of Trump (which have made it even worse). That is not true. Even before Trump, while the economy was great for the billionaires and corporations, it was NOT so great for most Americans.

Half of families in the U.S. are just a paycheck away from poverty. Millions work for poverty-level wages. Child care is so expensive that it doesn't pay for many to work. Groceries and consumer goods are too expensive. Wages for most have virtually remained flat while inflation eats away at it. Millions remain with our any kind of health insurance. Rural hospitals are disappearing. Interest rates are too high. Houses are too expensive - and many people can no longer accomplish the dream of home ownership. The climate is getting worse and disasters are increasing.

All of these problems have answers, but the current politicians don't seem to have any answers - including many Democratic leaders. They seem to be happy with the status quo (Democrats) or want to make it worse (Republicans). It's no wonder the voters are disgusted with both parties.

New York voters chose the candidate with new ideas, the candidate willing to listen to their problems, and the candidate willing to fight for them. And it's not just New Yorkers. I think voters across the country would respond to young progressives not tied to the past, but have new ideas about how to solve problems and the passion to fight for ordinary Americans.

If the Democratic establishment was smart, they wouldn't turn their backs on these candidates. They would embrace them. The party needs more people like Zohran Mamdani, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, David Hogg, and other young progressives. They will revitalize the party and make voters beige in Democrats again. 

The Democratic National Committee Is A Mess - And That's Not Good For The Party

 

I am a Democrat. I believe the Democratic Party has the solutions to make this country better for all of its citizens - both socially and economically. 

Currently, the party is not doing well. We lost the presidency and both houses of Congress in the last election. And most polls show Democrats faring as poorly as Republicans. It is imperative that this be changed. We must especially make it clear to working men and women that we still put their good before that of the rich.

But there is a problem with the organization that is supposed to build a stronger party - the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Instead of working together to grow the party and make it stronger, they seem to be engaged in partisan infighting.

Last February, the DNC elected a new chairman - Ken Martin of Minnesota. At the same time, some new officers were installed. One of these was David Hogg. Hogg is a young progressive who wanted to reach out to younger voters.

Hogg believes the party leaders are too old and don't represent younger voters as much as they should. He also said that he would use his Pac to support opponents to some elected Democrats in safe districts, because they are not fighting for constituents (or opposing Trump) as hard as they should - being more interested in just keeping their jobs.

That upset Martin and some other DNC members. They say the DNC should not interfere in party primaries, but remain neutral. Martin even claimed he couldn't do his job because Of Hogg and his supporters. That just sounds like a weak leader to me. The DNC should probably rethink it choice for chair.

Instead, they voted to have a new election for vice-chair - prerequisite for kicking Hogg out of his job. Hogg resigned. Now two at-large members (both union leaders) have resigned at DNC members - claiming the leadership is not acting to increase party membership.

I have to agree. If a DNC member wishes to remain neutral in primaries, that is their right. But it is also the right of any Democrats (including DNC members) to be active in party primaries (and support the candidacy of some running).

There are some elected Democrats who seem more interested in keeping their job for a lifetime than actually fighting for American citizens. Those should be opposed in their primaries - and kicked out of their jobs if the voters agree.

Frankly, I would have no problem with EVERY elected Democrats facing one or more primary opponents. If the party's voters think they are doing a good job, they will be reelected. If not, they would be defeated.

The neither the DNC nor party voters should be protecting Democrats in safe seats with a lifetime job. The party needs a youth injection - one provided by the voters.

The DNC needs to stop the infighting and do their job - growing the party and making it stronger. If they won't, the party's rank and file should choose new DNC members.

Trump Approval Is Underwater Nut Democrats Approval Is Even Worse

 

The charts above reflect the results of the CNN / SSRS Poll -- done between March 6th and 9th of a nationwide sample of 1,206 adults, with a 3.3 point margin of error.

Job approval for Donald Trump is dropping - and now several polls have shown that more people disapprove of the job he is doing than approve of it.

One might think that is good for Democrats. Not so. Polls are now showing that the Democratic Party is even more unpopular than Trump. The CNN poll (shown above) shows that only 29% of adults (and only 30% of registered voters) approve of the Democrats.

Why is this?

The pundits are saying the Democrats are "elitist" and have lost touch with the working man. I don't believe that. How much more elitist can you get than the Republican Party - run by billionaire oligarchs only interested in feathering their own nest?

I believe it is something more fundamental than issues. After all, a majority of voters actually oppose most issues put forward by Trump and the Republican Party.

Congressional Democrats, especially their leaders, are seen as soft -- unwilling to fight hard for the things they say they believe in. And that image was not helped when Senate Democrats rolled over and surrendered to the GOP on the continuing resolution.

I understand the Democrats were left with two bad choices - shutting down the government or allowing a terrible resolution to pass. Both would have been bad for the American people. But the path they chose was one that made them look weak and ineffectual. They would have been much better off to fight against the resolution - even if it meant a shutdown and eventually losing. At least they would have been seen to be fighters.

When the Republicans were out of power, they fought the Democrats on every issue. They didn't Winn a lot, but they came off as being fighters. And that helped them to return to power.

Democrats must do the same. Oppose the Trump/Republican agenda and make them work hard to pass anything. If you can't defeat it, then delay it with every legal and political maneuver possible. Make life hard for Trump and the GOP - and keep doing it time after time. And do it loudly, so the public sees it.

The voting public doesn't have to agree with you on everything to vote for you. But they must believe you are a fighter. They won't vote for someone (either an individual or a party) that is perceived as weak or cowardly. Unfortunately, that's how Democrats are currently perceived.

Independents Far Outnumber Both Democrats And Republicans

Kamala Harris And Democrats Are Not To Blame For The Trump Victory

Like many millions of other Americans, I was shocked at Trump's victory in the recent election.

The voters knew that Trump was an inveterate liar, and voted for him anyway.

The voters knew Trump was a convicted criminal, and voted for him anyway.

The voters knew Trump had numerous criminal trials pending, and voted for him anyway.

The voters knew Trump was a racist, and voted for him anyway.

The voters knew Trump was a sex abuser, and voted for him anyway.

The voters knew Trump opposed reproductive freedom, and voted for him anyway.

The voters knew Trump played fast and loose with critical intelligence (including stealing and hiding top secret documents), and voted for him anyway.

Why did this happen? How could it have happened?

Some are trying to blame Kamala Harris. They say she was a bad candidate. Bullshit! The Democratic base loved her. She trashed Trump in their only debate. And she was a tireless campaigner who gave great campaign speeches.

Some are trying to blame President Biden - saying if he had dropped out earlier and allowed Democrats to have a competitive primary things would have been different. Nonsense! 

And some are trying to blame the Democratic Party. They say the party is broken and has abandoned workers. That's also ridiculous!

The party raised over a billion dollars from small donors, and had a massive get out the vote effort. And it has been true to workers. It is the Republicans who have blocked all efforts to help workers.

The reason Trump won can be summed up in one sentence. A majority of voters didn't want to vote for a woman (misogyny) who was Black and Asian (racism). 

I wish it wasn't true, but most voters were racists, misogynists, or both. That's a sad fact in a country that claims to believe in equality and opportunity for all. 

Democrats Need To Embrace Harris To Defeat Trump

 I was not one of those who wanted President Biden to step aside. But he has done so. And he has endorsed Kamala Harris to replace him as the Democratic nominee.

I agree. She is qualified, and ready to do battle with Donald Trump. And the most important issue in this campaign is keeping Donald Trump out of the White House. He is unfit, and his plans are downright frightening.

I have heard some talk of opening the race up for additional nominees. That should not happen. Time is running out to have a viable candidate, and we don't need any more arguments and party divisions. We need to unite immediately behind Kamala Harris, and begin fighting to keep Trump our of the White House.

Can Kamala Harris win the November election? Yes! I believe she can - but only if Democrats unite and turn out in massive numbers on Election Day. Trump's cult members will be voting. We must make sure we turn out in larger numbers (and convince Independents to join us).

Biden Drops Out - It's Now Kamala Harris Or Lose The Election

The naysayers in the Democratic Party got what they wanted. As I was writing this post, it was announced that President Biden has withdrawn from the race. And he has endorsed Kamala Harris as his replacement on the Democratic ticket.

Will those who abandoned Biden accept Harris as the nominee? Or will they continue their ridiculous antics?

The chances of winning in November just got a lot smaller. But Harris just might pull it off if all Democrats immediately unite and fight for her. If they don't, then we are going to have another disastrous Trump presidency. And he may even get a Republican Congress (to make it easier for him to destroy our democracy).

I like VP Harris, and I think she's the only Democrat who can possibly win. If she is passed over, Black voters (and a lot of Whites also) will see it as racism and misogyny (and they would probably be right). 

Add to this the fact that we are less than four months until the election. We don't have time for a divisive and rancorous fight among Democrats. 

There are already some saying Harris should not be "coronated". They are wrong. She must have time to make her case before the American voters, and there is no time for another campaign fight. Give the nod to Harris or lose the election.

The Democrats who have been demanding Biden drop out have already stomped all over the right of Democratic voters to pick the nominee. They don't have the right to now call for a new campaign (which would be decided by party activists and bosses - not voters). It will not be a truly Democratic process, so the nod should go to the vice-presidential candidate.

It's Kamala Harris or Donald Trump who will be the next president.

Voter Approval Of The Two Major Political Parties

Hispanics Prefer Democrats But There's Still Work To Be Done

 The chart above is from a poll of 1,005 Hispanics nationwide between March 7th and 18th by the Axios / Ipsos Latino Poll. The margin of error is 3.7 points.

The poll shows that Hispanics prefer Democrats, but not by as much as some Democrats think. Democrats will likely win the Hispanic vote, but they need to win it by a large margin and that might not happen. 

Democrats would be making a huge mistake to take the Hispanic vote for granted. There is much work still to be done to win over Hispanics.
