Trump Has A Big Problem With Women Voters
Donald Trump's approval numbers have been upside-down since he was sworn into office, and they aren't improving. In fact, they are the worst approval numbers in the first year of office of any president since World War II.
Where's his problem? It's not with male voters. Most polls have his numbers among men pretty close, with some giving him a slight positive and some a slight negative number. But the story with female voters is far different. All polls show him with large negative gaps among women.
The Quinnipiac University Poll has him with a negative 31 point gap among women.
The ABC News / Washington Post Poll has him with a negative 36 point gap.
The CNN / SSRS Poll has him with a negative 34 point gap.
The Fox News Poll has him with a negative 19 point gap.
The Economist / YouGov Poll has him with a negative 18 point gap.
Those are some terrible numbers, and they portend problems at the ballot box in the future for Trump -- especially considering the fact that women vote in larger numbers than men do. But it's not just 2020 that is worrisome. There is time before that happens, and a miracle could happen that would make women like him (although I doubt it).
It spells trouble in 2018 for the Republicans. The off-year election is often a vote on how the sitting president is doing. And that will be especially true this year. Voters may well take out their disapproval of Trump on Republican candidates around the country. Women will be the biggest part of the protest vote.
This seems to be the year of women -- the year they step forward and show their power. If they flex that power in the voting booth, then Republicans are in trouble.
