Democrats Have A 7.2 Point Generic Ballot Advantage

The chart above uses information from RealClearPolitics. It shows the position of the public regarding who they would vote for in the congressional election, if the election was now (generic ballot). Note that all of the polls give Democrats the advantage -- with that advantage ranging between 3 and 11 points. The RealClearPolitics average of polls (which proved more accurate than most single polls in the last election) shows Democrats with a 7.2 point lead. That's significant, because many pundits think Democrats would need an advantage between 7 and 8 points to flip the House (and maybe the Senate).

Democrats shouldn't celebrate yet though. Things could change before November, and even if they don't change, this will only work if Democrats can get their voters to the polls in large numbers.
