Bad Sign For GOP - Independents Oppose Trump Policies

The Gallup Poll recently questioned a national sample of 1,024 adults on whether they support Trump's policies inline important areas. The poll was done between August 1st and 12th, and has a margin of error of 4 points.

It's no surprise that an overwhelming number of Republicans support those policies and an overwhelming number of Democrats oppose them (see the charts below). It is expected that large numbers of both parties will vote this November, but it is likely that the election will be decided by Independents.

What do the Independents think of Trump's policies? If they support them, then they will tend to vote Republican. If they oppose them, they will tend to vote for Democrats.

As the chart above shows, it looks like it's the Democrats who can celebrate. The Independents have a majority opposing Trump's policy in all of the nine areas. That means it's unlikely that Trump has any coattails for Republicans to cling to in November.

Republicans in safe districts may enjoy a visit from Trump to campaign for them, but it looks like he wouldn't help a Republican in a competitive district. A visit from Trump might actually hurt them.
