Trump Is Not Helping Himself (Or The GOP) With Shutdown

On January 7th and 8th, Public Policy Polling surveyed adults in seven states -- Alaska (898), Arizona (741), Colorado (706), Georgia (943), Iowa (1,031), Maine (1,082), and North Carolina (949). The state surveys show Trump is not doing himself any good with his keeping the government shutdown.

* A majority in all seven states disapprove of Trump's job performance.

* A majority in six of the seven states oppose building a wall on the border (Georgia respondents were evenly split on the question).

* Significant majorities in all seven states oppose Trump keeping the government shutdown to get funding for his wall.

* A plurality or majority in all seven states say they would be less likely to vote for a Republican senator that supported Trump keeping the government shutdown. All of the seven states have a Republican senator running for re-election.

The number in parentheses beside each state on the chart shows that states electoral college votes. How many of these states can Trump afford to lose and be re-elected? I say none (considering he is already unlikely to hold Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

You can be sure that Democrats in 2020 will not let the voting public forget about Trump's ridiculous government shutdown.
