The field of candidates vying for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination now stands at 16. In a video last Wednesday, Wayne Messam, Mayor of Miramar (a city of 122,000 residents in Broward County, Florida), tossed his hat in the ring of candidates.
He joins 15 other candidates that have officially declared their candidacy -- Kamala Harris, Beto O'Rourke, Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Pete Buttigieg, Jay Inslee, John Hickenlooper, Amy Klobuchar, Bernie Sanders, Kirsten Gillibrand, Julian Castro, John Delaney, Tulsi Gabbard, Andrew Yang, and Marianne Williamson. And that's without Joe Biden (who is expected to announce his candidacy soon).
Massam, the 44 year-old son of Jamaican immigrants, said, "The promise of America belongs to all of us. That's why I'm going to be running for president."
