There Are Now 19 Democratic Party Presidential Candidates

The Democratic field of candidates for the 2020 presidential nomination continues to grow. On Monday, Rep. Eric Swalwell (California) announced his candidacy for the nomination. He plans to base his candidacy on doing something about gun violence in this country.

Here is part of what he said in announcing:

“I’m running for president of the United States. It’s official. Boy, did it feel good to say that.”

“I’ve talked to kids who sit in their classroom afraid that they’ll be the next victim of gun violence. And they see Washington doing nothing about it after the moments of silence, and they see lawmakers who love their guns more than they love our kids.”

There are now 19 candidates who have officially declared. That's without Joe Biden, who most people believe will soon announce his candidacy. That means Democrats will have a minimum of 20 candidates to choose from.
