The Labor Department has released its statistics for unemployment claims for the week ending on August 15th. It showed an additional 1,106,000 workers filed for unemployment benefits last week. That makes 21 out of the last 22 weeks that more than a million workers filed an unemployment claim. Trump wants us to believe that the economy is improving and the nation is climbing out of his recession. Unfortunately, that's just not true. The recession remains deep, and many millions of workers are still without a job.
Here is the official Labor Department announcement:
In the week ending August 15, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 1,106,000, an increase of 135,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 8,000 from 963,000 to 971,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,175,750, a decrease of 79,000 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 2,000 from 1,252,750 to 1,254,750.
