Another 419,000 Workers Filed For Unemployment Last Week

The Labor Department released its weekly unemployment statistics on Thursday. It showed that another 419,000 workers filed for unemployment benefits in the week ending on July 17th. That's a significant uptick from the week before (a rise of about 51,000 workers).

The recession is not yet over (even though the rich seem to be doing very well), and with the right-wing campaign against vaccinations, it may not be over for quite a while yet.

In the week ending July 17, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 419,000, an increase of 51,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 8,000 from 360,000 to 368,000. The 4-week moving average was 385,250, an increase of 750 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 2,000 from 382,500 to 384,500.
