Donald Trump keeps bragging about how well he is handling the United States economy. For him, as long as the Wall Street stock market is doing well, and he and his rich friends are making money, then that's all that matters.
But for most Americans, the reality is different. They are having trouble stretching their paychecks to pay for the things their families need. As the chart above shows, inflation jumped up to 4.2% in May. It now costs an extra 4.2% to buy the things they need. That's the same thing as a 4.2% cut to their paychecks - and it seems to get worse every month.
Trump claims "affordability" is a Democratic hoax, but working Americans know better. They are the ones suffering through the affordability crisis. And it shows up in their disapproval of how Trump is handling the economy. Currently, about 63% of both adults and voters disapprove of how Trump is handling the economy. That's nearly two-thirds disapproval.
The chart above reflects the results of the Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between June 5th and 8th of a nationwide sample of 1,568 adults (including 1,438 registered voters). The margin of error is 3.6 points for adults and 3.3 points for registered voters.
