Vance Lied About Trump's Stand On The ACA During The Debate

Donald Trump has never liked the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). He tried to overturn it during his term in office, but was blocked by the vote of Senator John McCain. Now, in the current campaign, he has again said that he would overturn the ACA if elected.

J.D. Vance knows this is an unpopular opinion, so when asked about it during the debate he lied. Here is what Politifact had to say about his lie:

As president, Trump worked to undermine and repeal the Affordable Care Act. He cut millions of dollars in federal funding for ACA outreach and navigators who help people sign up for health coverage. He enabled the sale of short-term health plans that don’t comply with the ACA consumer protections and allowed them to be sold for longer durations, which siphoned people away from the health law’s marketplaces.

Trump's administration also backed state Medicaid waivers that imposed first-ever work requirements, reducing enrollment. He also ended insurance company subsidies that helped offset costs for low-income enrollees, he backed an unsuccessful repeal of the landmark 2010 health law and he backed the demise of a penalty imposed for failing to purchase health insurance.

Affordable Care Act enrollment declined by more than 2 million people during Trump’s presidency, and the number of uninsured Americans rose by 2.3 million, including 726,000 children, from 2016 to 2019, the U.S. Census Bureau reported; that includes three years of Trump’s presidency.

Trump's Desire For Police Violence Is Illegal And Ridiculous

Donald Trump must be getting desperate. His latest proposals are ridiculous. He has proposed letting police department have a day on violent retribution against those they consider to be criminals. It is insane!

It's also unconstitutional. The Constitution prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, and allowing the police to attack people without arrest or trial would certainly meet that definition.

It's also illegal. It is against the law for anyone to attack or abuse someone - including the police. In fact, because of the power we give police officers, they should be held to a higher standard.

And finally, it simply would not work. It would not eradicate crime as he thinks. I worked in various aspects of law enforcement for nearly 30 years. I never met a criminal who thought he would be caught. And if someone doesn't think he/she would be caught while committing a crime, arrest or violence would not serve as a deterrent.

This would not make our society better or safer.

Kamala Harris Is The Patriotic Choice For President

This is just part of an editorial by the New York Times editorial board:

It is hard to imagine a candidate more unworthy to serve as president of the United States than Donald Trump. He has proved himself morally unfit for an office that asks its occupant to put the good of the nation above self-interest. He has proved himself temperamentally unfit for a role that requires the very qualities — wisdom, honesty, empathy, courage, restraint, humility, discipline — that he most lacks.

Those disqualifying characteristics are compounded by everything else that limits his ability to fulfill the duties of the president: his many criminal charges, his advancing age, his fundamental lack of interest in policy and his increasingly bizarre cast of associates.

This unequivocal, dispiriting truth — Donald Trump is not fit to be president — should be enough for any voter who cares about the health of our country and the stability of our democracy to deny him re-election.

For this reason, regardless of any political disagreements voters might have with her, Kamala Harris is the only patriotic choice for president.

Most presidential elections are, at their core, about two different visions of America that emerge from competing policies and principles. This one is about something more foundational. It is about whether we invite into the highest office in the land a man who has revealed, unmistakably, that he will degrade the values, defy the norms and dismantle the institutions that have made our country strong.

As a dedicated public servant who has demonstrated care, competence and an unwavering commitment to the Constitution, Ms. Harris stands alone in this race. She may not be the perfect candidate for every voter, especially those who are frustrated and angry about our government’s failures to fix what’s broken — from our immigration system to public schools to housing costs to gun violence. Yet we urge Americans to contrast Ms. Harris’s record with her opponent’s.

Ms. Harris is more than a necessary alternative. There is also an optimistic case for elevating her, one that is rooted in her policies and borne out by her experience as vice president, a senator and a state attorney general.
