Wall Street Willie Still Doesn't Appeal To The Republican Party's Base Voters

(The cartoon above is by Mike Luckovich in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.)

The problems just continue to grow for Willard Mitt Romney (aka Wall Street Willie). I posted yesterday about how two polls now show Romney is now trailing Santorum in the state Romney grew up in -- Michigan. Also, a Public Policy Polling survey showed Santorum has taken the lead nationally, and the Gallup Poll showed Santorum within the margin of error (trailing Romney by only two points). And the bad news just keeps on coming for Wall Street Willie.

There are now two more polls just released that show him trailing Santorum nationally. And the reason is the same thing that has plagued Romney for months now -- he just can't seem to sell himself to the Republican Party base. Both of these polls show Santorum is now winning with teabaggers, evangelicals, and conservatives -- the same groups that have been trying for months to find an anti-Romney candidate they can coalesce behind. It is starting to look like that candidate is Rick Santorum. Here are the numbers from both polls:

CBS NEWS/NEW YORK TIMES POLL
Rick Santorum...............30%
Mitt Romney...............27%
Ron Paul...............12%
Newt Gingrich...............10%

Conservatives
