Colorado expected to do pretty well from the tax it imposed on marijuana sales, predicting about $67 million dollars a year. But it now looks like it could be significantly more than that.
18 of the State's 35 marijuana retailers shared information with NBC News -- information that showed they had collectively gathered in about $1.24 million in taxes during the first 27 days of legal marijuana sales. And remember, that was only half of the stores reporting. The figure could easily be double that amount.
And it even gets better. These stores believe they will take in about $0.25 million every day in taxes for February. This means it is likely that Colorado will bring in around $100 million from its marijuana tax this year. That's a fairly substantial amount -- and it could have politicians in other states looking at how they can get in on this new money source for their own states and cities.
