Is Trump Ready To Wave The White Flag And Surrender?
Donald Trump spoke to the nation Wednesday night about the Iran War. As usual, he declared victory. But he did not give any real timeline for ending the war. Instead, he said there would be at least another "couple of weeks" of the bombing. That phrase "a couple of weeks" is what Trump uses when he doesn't have a real answer for a problem or a real plan.
But the most troubling aspect of his speech was that he now seems ready to abandon the war without reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He's claiming the Strait of Hormuz will "open up naturally once the conflict is over". That's either wishful thinking or complete idiocy.
The truth is that Trump didn't realize the Strait would be closed by Iran once it was attacked. Everyone else in the world knew it would happen, but Trump and his sycophants didn't. It surprised them - showing both a lack of proper planning and/or adequate intelligence.
Iran can't match the military of the United States, but it has the ability to wreck the world's economy. And they only had to close the Strait of Hormuz to do that. It was their most powerful weapon, and not one they will easily give up. In fact, they have said they are going to keep control of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, and likely will charge tankers a hefty fee ($2 million) to buy safe passage through it. This fee will act to keep the price of oil, fertilizer, and helium high - and cause worldwide inflation to continue.
If Trump ends the war before reopening the Strait of Hormuz, he will be admitting the the U.S. military cannot reopen it. It will be an act of surrender that allows Iran to keep using its most powerful weapon.
It sounds to me like Trump is ready to wave the white flag!
