It's no secret that Donald Trump is waging a war with the mainstream media. He is upset that they report on his lies and half-truths, instead of just parroting them. He has labeled them as "fake news" and even leveled personal attacks at some journalists. He is trying to destroy the credibility of the media, so he can more easily mislead the American people.
It's not working as well as he had hoped. The public still trusts the media more than they trust Trump. They trust CNN more by 7 points (with CNN being one of his favorite targets), trust the New York Times and the Washington Post more by 9 points, and trust ABC, CBS, and NBC News more than Trump by 11 points.
This chart was made from information in a new NBC News / SurveyMonkey Poll -- done between June 29th and July 3rd of a random national sample of 4,965 adults, with a margin of error of 2.5 points.
