Poll Of Possible Democratic Candidates In 2020
I know some of you are probably tired of hearing about elections right now, but we are not far off the time candidates will start declaring they want to run for president in 2020. In the past, that didn't happen until at least summer, but with the field probably going to be large for Democrats and candidates wanting to get aides and donors lined up, I expect candidates to start declaring in January or February of 2019 -- only a couple of months away!
The Harvard University / Harris Poll decided to see what Democrats were thinking. They surveyed 456 registered Democratic voters on November 25th and 26th. The chart above shows what they found.
Biden still leads all others with 25%. He is followed by Sanders at 15% and Clinton at 13%. Most Democrats don't expect Clinton to run again (62%), and I think they are probably right. Biden and Sanders are both still considering a run. If they run, it will probably devolve into a showdown between the two.
But if they don't run, the race could be very interesting. Beto O'Rourke is still getting fairly strong consideration from Democrats at this point (9%), and leads other possibles --Warren (4%), Booker (3%), Harris (2%), and Bloomberg (2%). Avenatti has 1%, but I still have a problem considering him a viable candidate.
It's going to be interesting -- especially if the 800 lb. (Biden) and 600 lb. (Sanders) gorillas are not in the room.
