There has been a lot of talk about where Donald Trump would be on the day Joe Biden in inaugurated as our 46th president. In the past, most out-going presidents have attended the inauguration as a symbol of the peaceful transfer of power in our democracy.
But Trump is unlikely to do that. He doesn't have the class required, and after his repeated lies about a rigged election, it would be both inappropriate and embarrassing for him.
So, where will he be? He has refused to say, and all of his White House aides say they don't know.
However, we may have a clue about what he was planning. Scotland has been notified to expect a U.S. Military 757 to land on their territory on January 19th. This is a plane that Trump has used in the past, and it is speculated that Trump was going to Scotland to spend Inauguration Day playing golf at his golf club in that country.
Why a military plane instead of the presidential plane? Because at noon on the 20th (the next day), he would no longer be in office -- and the presidential plane would need to be available for President Biden.
But it now turns out that Trump will NOT be in Scotland on Inauguration Day. That's because the Scottish government has barred him from entering the country. First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said Scotland is not allowing anyone to enter except for an essential purpose -- and she doesn't consider playing golf to be an essential purpose.
So, we are still left to wonder where Trump will be when Joe Biden takes the oath of office. Will he just fly to Mar-A-Lago the day before, and hide out there?
