While most Americans suffered due to the pandemic which kicked off the Trump Recession, that suffering did not extend to the super-rich. Note the chart above from Axios.com. It shows the venture capital investment from 2000 through 2020.
Note that the amount of venture capital invested in 2020 was a record $133.2 billion, and the number of deals done were a healthy 6,300.
The economy in general may not have been doing well, but the rich were still investing and making money.
