After Two Days Of Early Voting In Texas The Turnout Is Huge!

If Democrats are to have a chance in Texas, there must be a huge turnout of voters. It looks like that might be happening. Early voting in the first two days of the 12 day early voting period has seen 1,615,885 people voting early, and another 173,451 mail-in ballots received. That's 9.61% of the state's registered voters in only two days (according to the office of the Texas Secretary of State).

A Majority Of Voters Will Vote Early In This Election

The chart above reflects the results of the Hart Research / Public Opinion Strategies Poll -- done between October 4th and 8th of a nationwide sample of 1,000 voters, with a 3.1 point margin of error. 

Texas Early Voting Was Large For A Midterm Election

The early vote total in Texas was fairly large for a midterm election. About 5,490,208 people voted early -- about 31.07% of the 17,672,143 registered voters in the state. 

In 2018, about 8,371,255 people voted in that election (both early and on Election Day). With early voting totaling 5.4 million this year, it seems obvious that total voting in this election will easily eclipse the total voting in 2018. A new record will be set for a midterm election.

We'll have to wait to see which party will benefit from this.

Early Voting Is Up Over Previous Midterm Elections

The charts above are from a Gallup Poll -- done between October 3rd and 20th of a nationwide sample of 897 registered voters, with a 4 point margin of error.

After One Day Of Early Voting In Texas

After the first day of voting in Texas, 549,611 people have voted -- 154,745 by mai and 394,765 in person. That's 3.11% of the 17,672,916 registered voters in the state.

Republicans Leading In Texas Early Voting

The chart above uses numbers from the office of the Texas Secretary of State. It shows the early voting totals for both political parties through February 18th (Friday). So far, Republican voters are significantly outnumbering Democratic voters statewide. 380,085 Republicans have voted, while 222,594 Democrats have voted -- a difference of 157,491.

By November, Democrats need to make up this enthusiasm gap, and get their voters to the polls in large numbers.

Public Wants Congress To Make Voting Easier - Not Harder

The charts above are from the Monmouth University Poll -- done between June 9th and 14th of a national sample of 810 adults, with a 3.5 point margin of error.

In many states across the nation, Republican legislatures have been passing laws to restrict voting. They think it will help them to make voting harder for Americans. But that goes against what most Americans want.

About 50% say voting by mail should be made easier, while only 39% want it made harder to do. And 71% say early voting should be made easier, while only 16% say it should be made harder. 

Democrats in the Senate tried to pass a voting rights bill yesterday -- a bill that would have made voting easier for all citizens. The bill was blocked by Republicans (who don't want to debate or vote on the bill).

That also goes against what the public wants. About 69% say there should be national guidelines making voting by mail and early voting easier to do.

There is only one aspect of voting that Republicans have been able to get the public to support -- requirement to show an ID before being allowed to vote.

Texans Smash Voting Record (w/o Election Day Count)!

The chart above shows the total number of voters that voted in presidential elections in Texas. The record number of voters was set in 2016, when 8,969,226 people voted.

That record has already been surpassed, and we haven't even gotten to Election Day yet. According to the office of the Texas Secretary of State, 8,698,233 people voted early in person and 971,013 mail-in ballots have been received. That's a total of 9,669,246 people who have already voted -- hundreds of thousands more than the old record for total votes. And when the Election Day voters are added, the old record will be surpassed by several million.

I don't know who those people voted for, but it's obvious that Texans are enthusiastic about voting this year.

 

Texas Is Headed For A Record Election Turnout This Year

 

In the first 14 of 18 days of early voting in Texas, 6,925,900 people have voted in person and 877,690 mail-in ballots have been received. That makes 7,803,590 votes that have already been cast in this election.

That's only about 1.1 million votes short of the total 2016 election votes (which was a record for a presidential election in Texas). With 4 more days of early voting, mail-in ballots continuing to arrive, and Election Day voters yet to be counted, it undoubtably will be a record voter turnout in the state for this election.

Voting Is Heavy In Texas This Year

In the first 12 days of early voting in Texas, there have been 6,356,493 people voting in person and 837,089 mail-in ballots received. That means 7,193,582 voters have already cast their ballots. And there are 6 more days of early voting. 

The 2016 election had the most people voting in the state. In that election, 8,969,226 voted in the presidential election. It looks like voting this year will easily eclipse that.

Over 37% of Voters In Texas Voted In First 10 Early Voting Days

In the first 10 days of early voting in Texas, 5,589,569 people voted early in person and 788,431 mail-in ballots have been received. That's a total of 6,387,000 people who have already voted -- about 37.62% of the state's registered voters. There are 8 days left in the early voting period.

Over 31% of Texans Have Already Voted

Through the first 8 days of early voting in Texas, 4,626,042 Texans have voted early and another 698,990 mail-in ballots have been received. That makes 5,325,032 votes that have been cast in this election -- about 31.41% of the state's registered voters. There are 10 more days of early voting.

Nearly 23% of Registered Voters Have Voted In Texas

Five out of 18 days of early voting has been completed in Texas. So far, 3,323,360 people have voted in person and 558,019 mail-in ballots have been received. That's a total of 3,881,379 votes that have already been cast in this election -- about 22.89% of the state's registered voters.

Early Voting Is Heavy In Texas On First Day

There are 18 days of early voting in Texas this year. It runs from October 13th thru October 30th.

On the first day of early voting, 541,862 people voted in person. An additional 365,192 mail ballots have been received. Combined, that makes a total of 907,054 voters who have already cast their ballot this year -- about 5.36% of the state's 16,914,438 registered voters.
