Most Americans Favor Abolishing The Electoral College
The charts above are from the Gallup Poll. They questioned a national sample of 1,019 adults between August 31st and September 13th, and their survey had a 4 point margin of error.
It turns out that a clear majority (61%) of Americans say they support abolishing the Electoral College. That includes 89% of Democrats and 68% of Independents. Republicans were the only group opposing it, with 23% agreeing it should be abolished and 77% opposing that.
Another 870,000 Workers Filed For Unemployment Last Week
The Labor Department released it statistics for new weekly unemployment claims on Thursday. It showed that another 870,000 workers filed to receive unemployment benefits. The recession continues.

In the week ending September 19, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 870,000, an increase of 4,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 6,000 from 860,000 to 866,000. The 4-week moving average was 878,250, a decrease of 35,250 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 1,500 from 912,000 to 913,500.
Over 200 Retired Generals & Admirals Endorse Biden
But these are dangerous times, and retired military officers know it. They know Trump has been a disaster for the country and its military, and over 200 generals and admirals now feel it is their duty to speak out.
They all signed a letter endorsing Joe Biden for president in the coming election.

More than 200 retired generals and admirals endorsed Joe Biden for president in a letter published Thursday, saying he had the character and judgment to serve as commander-in-chief instead of President Donald Trump, who has failed "to meet challenges large or small."
Some of the officers who signed the letter supporting Biden had retired only in the past few years, including Air Force Gen. Paul Selva, who served as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under Trump before he retired in August 2019; Vice Adm. Gardner Howe, a Navy SEAL leader who also retired last year; and retired Adm. Paul Zukunft, who oversaw the Coast Guard until 2018.
The list of signatories featured 22 retired four-star military officers, among them Navy Adm. Samuel Locklear, who oversaw all U.S. forces in the Pacific from 2012 to 2015, and Adm. Harry Ulrich, who commanded U.S. naval forces in Europe during President George W. Bush's administration.
The retired top brass signed the letter backing Biden along with nearly 300 other former national security officials and diplomats. William Webster, the former director of the CIA and the FBI, was among the signatories, along with five former defense secretaries: William Perry, William Cohen, Chuck Hagel, Leon Panetta and Ash Carter. . . .
By law, military service members must remain apolitical while in uniform, but most senior officers stay out of the political arena even after they hang up their uniforms. Although the number of retired senior officers wading into politics has steadily increased over the past two decades, Thursday's letter was notable for the sheer number of top brass from every branch of the military who chose to endorse Biden.
"We are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. We love our country. Unfortunately, we also fear for it," they wrote.

Majority Of Americans Do NOT Want Roe Vs. Wade Overturned
Donald Trump has said he will appoint a new Supreme Court justice by this weekend, and Mitch McConnell has said the Senate will vote on Trump nomination. This means Trump will have chosen 3 of the 9 court justices, and it would give the court a 6 to 3 majority for conservatives.
This puts Roe vs. Wade in danger -- the Supreme Court decision that allows a woman to choose whether to have an abortion or not. Trump promised his base that he would only choose justices that would vote to overturn Roe vs. Wade. He has already chosen two that feel that way, and a third would probably be enough to change the law (overturn Roe vs. Wade).
That may make the right-wing fundamentalists in his base happy, but it is not what the American people want. About 53% of the public (and 55% of registered voters) -- clear majorities -- are opposed to the Supreme Court overturning Roe vs. Wade. And that is true of both genders, all age groups, all race and ethnicities, and all regions of the country.
Once again, Trump and Republicans find themselves at odds with what the public and voters want. This is not going to help them in the coming election.
The chart above reflects the results of the new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between September 20th and 22nd of 1,500 adults nationally (including 1,282 registered voters), with a 3.6 point margin of error.
This Presidential Race Has Been Remarkably Stable
Notice how constant the results of the poll has been. Since early June, Biden lead over Trump has been virtually the same.
Is this election over? Have voters already made up their minds about how they will vote? I think that is probably true. Most people don't want Trump in the White House another four years, and they have decided that Biden is an acceptable replacement for Trump.
WARNING! -- This doesn't mean you don't have to vote!
A majority opposed Trump is 2016, but too many people stayed home instead of voting -- believing their vote was not needed. We cannot let that happen again. Whether you live in a red or blue state, your vote is needed -- every vote is needed. A large voter turnout will kick Trump out of the White House, while a small turnout could help him squeak out another win.
