A German bus driver threatened to throw a 20-year-old sales clerk off his bus in the southern town of Lindau because he said she was too sexy, a newspaper reported Monday.
"Suddenly he stopped the bus," the woman named Debora C. told Bild newspaper. "He opened the door and shouted at me 'Your cleavage is distracting me every time I look into my mirror and I can't concentrate on the traffic. If you don't sit somewhere else, I'm going to have to throw you off the bus.'"
Cause, you know, it is ever so hard to concentrate on your job when a pair of boobs have the audacity to be present at the scene. A considerate woman would do everything in her power to hide them under multiple layers of clothing (summer be damned), or even better, just leave the dirty pillows at home.
The driver evidently feels that his attraction to this woman is her own fault. Not only that, but he seems to feel that she should know it (you know, with her womanly psychic powers) and immediately remove herself from his delicate vision.
Gawd forbid he actually do his job and keep his eyes on the friggin' road!
In a move that makes me wany to choke someone, the driver's bosses applaud his jerk-tastic move:
A spokesman for the bus company defended the driver.Sheesh. What next? Someone with a foot fetish threatening to boot anyone who wears flip-flops?
"The bus driver is allowed to do that and he did the right thing," the spokesman said. "A bus driver cannot be distracted because it's a danger to the safety of all the passengers."
Update: Jeff Fecke has a good post about this story at Shakesville.
Here's a link to the original German article, to include a photo of the passenger in question.
ReplyDeleteQuite uncharacteristically for Bild, the photo is cropped too high to really see what the fuss was all about (compare Debora's photo on the right to the "Shopping" ad on the lower left).
The "fuss was all about" the driver deciding that he couldn't make the right choice when faced with watching the road or checking out a passenger's rack.
ReplyDelete...and putting the responsibility on her to remove herself from his line of sight or risk being kicked off of the bus.
ReplyDeleteHe could have simply stopped checking her out and put his eyes back on the road, where they belong, like most decent people would have done. Instead he chose to make an ass of himself.
I agree that the bus driver made an ass of himself, and his behavior was inappropriate at best. If it were my wife or one of my stepdaughers he pulled that on, I'd be pretty upset myself.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm just a little surprised at the proportionality of your reaction.
In a world where forced abortions in China, genital mutilations in Africa, honor killings in the Middle East and sex slavery in Thailand are regular occurences, why did you single out this particular bus driver in Germany to vent your rage?
What a stupid question. That is like asking a police officer why they arrested a burglar when there are so many murderers and rapists in the world. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being enraged at sexism in each and every time it shows it's ugly face.
ReplyDeleteLOL, look here. If you were her or any other passengers on the bus, would you rather die in an accident or change your seat?
ReplyDeleteYou gotta give the bus driver credit for making the safer decision. You can say that he could have simply looked away, but you dont know how hard it is for men to not focus on those things. Men are made to be attracted to women's body. If you're a man, you'll find it totally understandable. (Are you even a woman, btw?)
Oh, and you can call him "filthy pig" or whatever, but I dont think "sexist" really fits in here
If you were her or any other passengers on the bus, would you rather die in an accident or change your seat?
ReplyDeleteI'd rather him do his job and keep his eyes on the road. I can't imagine that he's the only driver to be attracted to his passengers, but most others seem to understand that they have a job to do and actually concentrate on that job.
Men that expect women with whom they are attracted to remove themselves from their vision are showing sexist behavior. After all, he demanded her to re-seat herself solely based on her appearance.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being enraged at sexism in each and every time it shows it's ugly face.[Emphasis added.]
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking forward to your post entitled Robin Givhan Is Sexist Prick
Look all you want.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Hillary beat you to it.

ReplyDeleteI'm a little surprised that you were so enraged about this bus incident in Germany five years ago, yet as far as I can tell, have yet to post anything about what women in India have to endure on buses.
